What is Environmental Health?
Environmental health is a field of medicine which examines how the things around us impact
our health. This includes chemicals, radiation, pests, and other things which can negatively
influence the human body. In the modern age, Americans spend 90% of their days indoors.
This creates a particular need to focus on indoor environments as sources of illness.
Studies have shown that the air in homes can be significantly more polluted than outdoor air,
even in cities with the worst of outdoor air pollution.
Many common household pollutants are known or suspected to cause or aggravate a myriad
of health conditions. Some of these can lead to cancer with long-term exposure. Despite the
fact that this knowledge exists, the publicly is largely unaware of these dangers and no
governmental standards have been adopted for residential environments.
The focus of Environmental Health Consultants is to help our clients identify indoor
environmental conditions that may have negative impacts on occupants. We seek to
educate clients on how to eliminate or avoid problems in their dwellings.
